Godwin is a small town in the southeastern part of the state of North Carolina, located in Sampson County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.5 square miles, all of it land. As of the 2010 census, the population of Godwin was 139. The town is located on North Carolina Highway 82, approximately 15 miles southeast of Fayetteville, NC. The town was incorporated in 1905 and was named after Major William Godwin, a prominent citizen of the area. The town is primarily residential, and the economy is dominated by agriculture, with cotton being the major crop. The town is home to one elementary school, Godwin Elementary School, which is part of the Sampson County Schools system.
